Rammy at Priestfield, 1892

Another little glimpse into Blantyre past…..From the Hamilton Herald Newspaper 28th October 1892… a story of a rammy taking place in High Blantyre. Not the first, nor the last!

James Daily, Watson’s Land, BlantyreGeorge Bordon and George Macleay, Gardiner Place, High Blantyre, and John Macleay, Struthers’ Land, High Blantyre, were charged with committing a breach of the peace, and quarrelling and fighting in the stackyard at Priestfield Farm. All the men pleaded guilty. Previous convictions were recorded against Daily and Bordon, and they were fined 20s, or 14 days each. The Macleays were fined 10s, or seven days each.”

I’m not sure what they were arguing about, but I’d confidently guess it was either family, politics, employment or money! AI imagines the scene for illustration only.
