Here’s a throwback for the partygoers of the past! Do you remember Bananas Disco, once located next to Hastie’s Farm on Victoria Street, Blantyre? 🪩 Janice Bickerstaff has shared these images of one of the tickets. It was proudly billed as “Scotland’s latest nitespot” with Lanarkshire’s top DJ Gary Moore spinning the tunes.
Open until 2am and strictly for the over 20s, Bananas was the place to be on a Sunday night – “Everybody’s Going (to) Bananas!” With free entry via complimentary tickets, a smart dress code, and a lively atmosphere, this venue was unforgettable.
The weekly line-up included:
- Thu–Sun: Regular Disco Nights (normal charges)
- Mon: Kids Disco (7pm–11pm, ages 13–16, 50p entry, soft drinks & crisps)
- Tue: Recession Beater Disco – all drinks just 50p and free admission!
- Wed: Northern Soul Nite – also free to get in.
A true local icon, Bananas Disco offered something for everyone, from soul to savings!
