Alan Scullion sent me this message saying, “Hello Paul. I have inherited my elderly aunt and uncle photos after their recent passing. Her father was a William McClelland 1900 -1971…with Blantyre roots… I have previously sent his old school photos. I am sure they are related to the McClelland removal company who are still on the go. Anyhow, I found a total random photo which has an annotation on the rear identifying Mr John Barr, Blantyre.
I checked the three sisters of William [Mary , Caroline and Marion] and they married, men surnames Duncan, Mair and Cameron so it’s not a relative. So I pass it to you with no expectations of any sort …will your knowledgeable public know him?”
This photo could very well be Blantyre. The topography in the background looks like one of the raised elevated railways which cut through the middle of the town.
Looking at the 1921 census there was a John Barr in High Blantyre near Crossbasket, aged 33, but I don’t think this is him. There is another John Barr in the census. Born in Ayr, this John Barr was 45 years old in 1921 and lived at Hunthill Road, a location nearer railways. If this is that particular John, this photo may be around WW2. Can’t be 100% certain, so opening it out to readers who may recognise him?!
