Blantyre Project reader Marion Connor messaged me recently saying, “We’re knocking through the wall in our back cupboard in the kitchen, and behind the wall and amongst all the bricks and rubble there is a very old box that must have contained nails to help build the house.”
Marion lives in Crawford Crescent, Blantyre and took these photos.
I think these probably relate to Sommerville Wire Nails of Lennoxtown, Glasgow. Operating from the 1940’s, I think these boxes relate to the late 1960’s and therefore could have been behind the wall for nearly half a Century. Houses in that street were built in the late 1950s, early 1960s, so the boxes could possibly be as old as that! Interesting find and a nod to the original untidy builders!
