In December 1892, Mr Forrest, a contractor from High Blantyre was filling his waggon with lime from a cart at the Goods building at High Blantyre Station.
Fearing damage to his expensive watch, he took it from his pocket, placing it on the railway carriage square buffer, whilst he carried out the laborious work. Forgetting about it, he went home. Some time later however, he suddenly remembered the watch and went back to the station.
However, after a search, he had to admit the watch wasn’t there and indeed the carriage wasn’t either. Concerned he wouldn’t see it again, a last ditch attempt was made as he started walking up the line in a frantic search. He was just past the fields and pits in High Blantyre about half mile up the track, when to his astonishment he suddenly saw the watch lying partially over one of the rails on the track!! A lucky find indeed.
