Blantyre Project reader Colin Duffy shared these photos taken earlier in the month. Colin has a keen eye to spot this Heron casually enjoying the water rushing by.
This was last Tuesday morning at the Clyde. I’m no expert, but according to google, Grey herons are widespread across Scotland and can often be seen patiently stalking fish in rivers, lochs, and coastal areas. They are excellent hunters, capable of standing still for long periods to ambush their prey. Herons nest in colonies called heronries, often in tall trees near water. Some heronries in Scotland have been in use for decades, and these birds return to the same site each year.
