This is something in the early 1980s. According to my notes, Nicholson’s Shop – was located at the corner of McLaughlin’s Building on Station Road at the corner of Woodburn Avenue. It was still there in October 1982 in Station Road but demolished shortly after.
My parents lived across the road from the shop in number 69 and that’s where I was brought up. I lived there from 1953 until I married in 1974 when my new husband and I moved into one of the flats in this building. We had a very happy 3 years there before buying our first house in 1977. The building housed many young couples and we were lucky to have lovely neighbours and with my parents house being across the road, we could go there to have a bath or use mum’s washing machine. I worked in Glasgow and went across to mum’s where she had breakfast ready for me every morning! My husband left a lot earlier for his work. In 2024 we celebrated our Golden Wedding Anniversary. What a good start we had in this building. Very sad to see these photos.
How sad! Are you, Gordon Cook any relation to Jimmy and Sarah Cook who lived at 134 Calder Street in the forties through the sixties?

This makes more sense to me. Never knew The Building as anything other than McLaughlin’s and have been in Mrs Nicholson’s shop often – and there was only the way round the back of the building between it and the tree-lined unmade-up Woodburn Avenue where a relative lived.
