1963 Battle of Bothwell Bridge Anniversary

Shared here from 1963 or 64 is a photo taken in Bothwell.

I believe this is the Anniversary of the Battle of Bothwell Bridge, which would mean this is 22nd June. In the field adjacent to Bothwell Bridge, this is another nice shot, taken in Kodachrome.

Alistair Hastings who shared the picture told me, “Of particular interest is the presence of a detachment of soldiers who will be Cameronians, performing their historic duty of providing an armed guard for the Minister. I believe they were  they were the only regiment in the British Army to take their weapons to church parade. The regiment disbanded in 1968. “

The photo was taken by Joe Hastings, the late grandfather of Alistair.

My grandfather whom we never met was in the Cameronian highlander regiment in the first world war that was interesting to learn they always took their weapons!
