This fantastic photo is the former Co-Operative Auchinraith Bakery, once located just off Auchinraith Road. Shared here by Gordon Cook, who told me, “This photo came from a little book issued by the Co-op in 1933 to mark their Jubilee. Members were given either a tea caddy or some other gift to mark the occasion.”
I have one of those Co-Op tea caddies at home which I was lucky enough to buy on e-bay for just £8, which I thought was a bargain! The left part of the photo is the bakery extension which was added in 1920/21. If you look at the loading bay, horse drawn carts are lined up ready for deliveries. Does anybody remember the bakery building, or even better, perhaps worked there in some capacity?
