The first weekend in July 1977 saw horse lovers from all over Lanarkshire descend on Bardykes Farm, Blantyre.
Hundreds of people flocked to the East Kilbride Conservative Association Blantyre Branch Gymkhana and Horse Show. The event attracted people from all over Scotland and there were prizes for different classes and sections for horse and pony riders.
For those not taking part in the events, there were fancy dress competitions, egg and spoon races and sack races. Saturday was rounded off with a big disco at Bardykes Farm.
Christine Ballantyne (17) of Quarter is pictured as she cleared a fence during the Saturday competition. Later on , she took a break from the competition to enjoy a cuppa before returning to check up on her steed, ‘Cadzow Castle’.
