I don’t have a lot of notes on this Blantyre based company so hopefully readers can help. Laurence Scott Ltd were an electrical engineering company based at Blantyre Industrial Estate who specialised in the manufacturing of all kinds of electric fans.
In May 1977, they had employed a dozen extra workers for incoming orders which were growing, securing also an order for 1,000 extra large fans. Factory Manager Mr John Stirling told reporters at that time, he couldn’t put a number on the extra workers the factory would need in the coming weeks, but did confirm an expansion was underway.
It’s my understanding that the company was founded in 1883 and was based in Norwich, England with the Blantyre factory, simply a branch of a larger, wider business. Over the years it made components which were used by the Navy, Royal Air Force and industrial and became Laurence, Scott & Electromotors Ltd (LSE).
What more can you tell me about “Laurence Scott Ltd”? Where exactly in the Industrial estate was the firm? Did YOU work there or know somebody who did? What happened to the business locally?
