Remembering Dan Morris

One of Lanarkshire most well known and accomplished journalists, passed away in January 1977 at the relatively young aged of 62.

Dan was born and bred in Blantyre. Educated in St Joseph’s School on Glasgow Road then at Motherwell’s Our Lady’s High, he was a clever fellow and found a route to enter journalism with the Blantyre Gazette. He also wrote for the Cambuslang Pilot when that paper was taken over by the Gazette.

He had worked for the Rutherglen Reformer for the 14 year prior to his death. During WW2, he served in the Royal Army Ordinance Corps and saw action on D-Day and throughout the liberation of France and Belgium. It was during home leave, in the middle of the war, that he married wife Anne Greer of Mossend.

He passed away in Hairmyres Hospital and was buried in High Blantyre Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, 2 sons and a daughter and lived at Morris Crescent.

Here we are 47 years later writing about Dan, ensuring his life is remembered here to a Global Blantyre Project audience, with remembrance beyond friends, colleagues and family.

Monica Stenning My uncle Dan. He was full of funny stories from his job. He would also go the extra mile for a story but he was honest and thruthful in all his reporting. Not like these days of false news. We all loved him.
