Back to 1989 with this photo from 34 years ago. This was taken in the back garden in Stonefield Crescent, Blantyre after a a particularly snowy week.
This is my sister Lorna, who was only 6 at the time. The snowman towering over her, built by my dad. (He certainly knew how to build a great snowman!)
We were lucky as kids to have this fairly big garden at the back of the house which enjoyed a sunny position in Summer and plenty of space to play at any time of the year. My mother loved looking after her garden right up until she passed away on another snowy day on 30th December 2009, 14 years ago tonight. Incredibly, my mum, (Janet) passed away in the same room she was born in. Not sure that happens to many people at all. She is missed very much.
These type of family photos using film cameras are wonderful to look back on happier family memories, but now all these years later have become interesting to see the backgrounds, buildings and trees too. The houses in the background are Watson Street, those small conifers now a large hedge. The big tree in recent years had become dangerous and was felled in the 2010’s.
