Blantyre Pals Reunited

Love this next wee story! Blantyre Project reader Duncan Slater (85), was recently returning from a family reunion in Rugeley, England and on the way home met up with a childhood pal. A Blantyre School pal he hadn’t seen…… for 71 years!

Duncan is pictured on the left after meeting up with John Gillespie (also 85). The gentlemen met at a rest area just off the M6 and I’ll bet they had a right natter about Blantyre.

The last time the school pals were together was when they left Calder Street School in 1952! Just look at those grins!

  1. So good to see a photo of Duncan Slater, a link to my Scottish family, I believe Duncan Slater & I are related through my grannie Ellenora Schlothauer Slater Duncan.
Ellenora was my fathers mother, John Duncan was his father, my grandfather…
Dad often reminisced of life in Calderside as a boy … his name was Alexander Duncan, the youngest son of grannie Ellen & Grandad Duncan … his sister was Sarah Duncan Marshall and William Duncan was his brother.
We have a great many cousins, Uncle Willy married Aunt Rena (Gallagher) & I remember visits to them as a little girl… I follow any information I can find of distant cousins so it was lovely to read of two friends meeting up after so many years.
