Ive got loads of great, auld Blantyre photos hopefully seen for the first time online, coming here in the next few weeks. Like this one taken from the back windows of houses on Station Road, looking over the public park towards Glasgow Road.
Shared here kindly by the Gordon family, this was taken from their window, in pre WW2 years, sometime in the 1930’s. It must have been before 1938 as the Cowan Wilson Arch isn’t there yet.Looking at the row of homes and shops in the back, thats Glasgow Road, the tenements on the left being Annfield. On the far left just at the edge of the photo is Stonefield Parish School and Victoria Street.
The houses in Station Road hadn’t existed for too long at this time though the back gardens look well cared for and becoming established. To those living there today around the even numbered 50’s in Station Road, I’m sure this back view towards the park now must look VERY different.
