The Village

Thank you to Rob Gordon who kindly shared this lovely painting of the village with Blantyre Project. It was painted by Rob’s brother, the late Blantyre historian, Neil Gordon of Stonefield Crescent and the painting is of course Station Road looking down to Livingstone Memorial.

This painting was used for the cover of Neil’s post Millennium Blantyre history book, “A Historical Dictionary”.

The painting scene dates from the first decade of the 20th Century, but Rob for comparison has also provided a photo of the same location in 1994. In times before google maps, remarkably, the scene hasn’t changed too much in almost 30 years since the photo was taken.
