Rest in Peace John Dunsmore

Blantyre Project has lost a friend and Blantyre itself, lost a true gent. Very sad news last night as we heard of the passing of well known Blantyre man, John Dunsmore. I’ll miss all his interesting comments and snippets of local information. I’ve learned a lot on this page from Wee Yanni over the years. His love of the outdoors was inspiring. Truly, he was the ‘King o’ the Cawther’.

Many people will have known John because of his big heart, his friendly banter and knowledge of Blantyre and his beloved Calder. He had a great love of the outdoors and being a skilled stonemason, often quietly and privately renovated the wording on Blantyre’s memorials. Something he did as a volunteer for no reward.

He had a great pride in Blantyre which was recognised in 2017 when he won a top award at Blantyre Oscars, an event we know he thoroughly enjoyed. Wee Yanni was a kind soul. He always had time for everybody on and offline.

Rest in peace John. You will be greatly missed.
