Uncollected Winter Fruit

It may only be a few days until December, but there’s still a LOT of uncollected fruit in and around Blantyre. Down the Calder, on trees at High Blantyre…like these, still laden with Golden Delicious apples outside my own home.

In previous years crops on these young trees, were smaller and some have admittedly gone to waste. Not this year though. Thanks to the power of Facebook, these apples have now been harvested and given away this week to make a delicious crumble or two!

The weight of the apples in Autumn bent the branches of these trees, merely a few years old. It amazes me how such weight can be tolerated on small branches like these. I planted plums last year, but not harvested any yet, the birds having other ideas.
