In this wonderful, previously unseen photo is Kirkton Park at High Blantyre. Taken almost 70 years ago in 1953, this scene has changed somewhat, so a little context is needed. The vantage point where the photographer stands is at the School Lane entrance to the park, right next to my current home.
The picture looks across to the former tenements on Broompark Road and the modern zipline playpark equipment would now be where the playing fields are pictured. The park-keepers have cut out rectangles of turf to plant up flowerbeds and without the modern bungalows of Broompark Road, you can actually see over to the graveyard at High Blantyre in the background.
This park was only just over 2 decades old at this time, though the layout and central path cutting the scene in the middle is still similar to today.
With thanks to Gordon Cook for sharing.
