Springfield Mineral Water

Thanks to Lisa Paterson who yesterday handed in lovely old bottle from Springfield Mineral Water, the former aerated water business in High Blantyre once ran by the McLean Brothers.

Lisa took time to drive over to Blantyre to hand in the bottle, which was graciously appreciated. She told me, “My gran was a McLean related to the family who owned the factory..she passed away years ago and we found it after my parents passed earlier this year.. just looking for it to go to a good home.”

Springfield Mineral Water Company – owned by the McLean Brothers and was situated at the back of Todd’s Building, High Blantyre. McLean brothers owned the Springfield Mineral water company in High Blantyre around the late 1890s and early 1900’s. Alexander McLean had been killed in the Udston explosion and his son Alexander badly burned. Alexander’s mother and nephew also lost their lives in a house fire in Blantyre in 1909 on Douglas Street. Alexander, I think was the brother who started up in business and his brothers worked with him. James McLean worked with his brothers William and Donald in the company.
