Jackson Street was a small dead end street during the 20th Century which developed from a field boundary of the former Springwell Farm. Branching off to the South of Glasgow Road it was once suggested to me that the street may have taken its name from former Councilor Jackson of Bardykes, who did so much to improve the streets of Blantyre in the early 20th Century. This seems plausible but it is far more likely given the association with nearby Herbertson Street that the name Jackson was honouring the last family to own this land at Springwell Farm.
Aside from the Co-op buildings, there were a few homes on the east and western side. There was also a mission hall at the south western side. Jackson Street disappeared from maps and from postal addresses in 1980 when the Auchinraith Trading Estate was built over it.

5 jackson street was the first house my mum and dad had. when they married they stayed with my granda and grandma mcgaulley in calder street my brother and i were born in calder st. i think they got the house in jackson st thru their co number i am not sure but i think it wastheir number was pulled out raffle style and that was how they got the house in 5 jackson st the oldest of my sisters was born in jackson street neighbours mrs scobie,mrs mcdonach(her brother eddie daley was a councillor in blantyre, mr mrs wilson, the gilmours, mckinnes,aunty alice and uncle wullie edgar(wonderfull people) mrs fraser mr and mrs mcllennachan
