There’s very little left of this scene at Hunthill Road, High Blantyre. All the buildings on the right are now demolished replaced by modern homes. Only a couple of the cottages on the left remain, the taller tenement also demolished. We’re looking north eastwards.
Putting this in context, beyond the far beyond on the road was the entrance to Watson Street. The whitewashed cottage on the right, now where the beginning of the steel homes are.
The gas lamp on the left is missing its lantern, through later pictures feature it clearly so it certainly looks to have been replaced. Today, this is a busy road about as far removed from this sleepy scene as one could get.
