High Blantyre is set to receive a multi-million pound economic boost as Crossbasket Castle Holdings Ltd progress plans for a brand new licensed hotel, spa and restaurant!!
Planning has been submitted last month for an exciting new development expanding Crossbasket. The proposals aim to create many dozens of quality jobs in the immediate area. This is a huge undertaking with owners fully taking on board all the feedback from Blantyre residents at an open day last year. Initial plans have now been amended to ensure a look more in keeping with the Calder surroundings and existing nearby buildings.
This is a BIG expansion. Just look at these amazing artists renders of how this proposal will look! Let’s explore some of the planning details:
NEW SPA >>>>
Who would have thought Blantyre would end up with a spa? A brand new, first class spa will have its own dedicated entrance leading into a reception area. A dedicated glass fronted cafe will have leafy views out to the greenery of the Calder. You can expect treatment rooms, hair salon and pedicure as well as relaxing chillout areas.
The new spa will also have a gym and fitness studio. They’ll be a heat experience part of the building containing a hydro pool, sauna and steam room. Not forgetting a sizeable 8m x 15m swimming pool and changing rooms.
NEW RESTAURANT >>>>
A new restaurant aims to seat 132 covers and will also have a beautiful bar, with snug areas. At one end of the restaurant will be a stage where live entertainment will provide entertainment in evenings. The restaurant will have glazed sliding doors.
One side will look into the internal open courtyard. The other will open out on to a glazed covered seating area outside. We’re sure the decor will look amazing. Separated from the Castle itself, the new build is shaping up to cater for everybody, seeking to offer a different experience from the Castle, with more affordable, entertaining evenings out for friends and family.
NEW HOTEL >>>>
A new hotel is being built too. Not only will it provide overflow accommodation for weddings, but will be let out to guests on a night by night basis too. Entrance to the reception is by a covered outside canopy on the west side of the building. Situated beside the existing Crossbasket Castle, the new hotel will be within a brand new building and will offer a variety of affordable rooms of varying sizes. Jobs will be needed.
All rooms will be ensuite and many will have balconies offering a fantastic view overlooking the Calder. The views promise to be spectacular of the Calder River and gorge. The hotel itself is on two floors and a lounge provides access into a beautiful light and open courtyard area located within the centre of the building.
LODGES >>>>
Four beautiful eco-friendly detached lodge houses are also going to be built down at the River Calder. On a lower elevation, these 4 lodges will be used as spillover accommodation for the Castle, for wedding guests and indeed anybody fancying a holiday or stay there. Set amongst the leafy backdrop of the Calder, they will be extremely private with views of the Calder River, near the Crossbasket falls.
Subject to planning, work could potentially start in 2021.
It’s safe to say, this significant investment for High Blantyre will put our town back on the map, not to mention create a wonderful getaway to relax, be pampered and entertained on nights out with friends and family.
