Staying inside “auld” Blantyre shops this week and another nostalgic photo of Amerigo ‘Rigo’ Russo’s grocers at 156 Glasgow Road. This time the back of the shop is pictured.

This shop was located between the Glencairn Laundry and Stepek, which was at the end of the Miller’s Laun block.

Photographed on 21st September 1981, almost 39 years ago, these were the last days of the shop as final stock got sold off ahead of closure.

People may remember Rigo with his strong Italian accent and black wavy hair? His wife worked in the shop too. The family were well liked including their son Adrian who assisted also in the shop and who had previously attended St Joseph’s School.
