One from my own family album today. This photo’s a little bit blurry but is my dad, Joe Veverka taken at the top of the Calder in 1976.
Our Samoyed dog was still relatively young then, and I was only 5 years old when this was photographed by mum. Dad is training the dog to lie down, something he mastered well.
In the background is the well remembered ‘white gates’ and white fence, a prominent entrance to the Calder and a term still used today (albeit the gates are now black). Homes in the background are Watson Street, the hedge-line to the left, Hunthill Road.
It doesn’t look too different now, thankfully. The community orchard is now built and is today, now situated out the left of this photo.
