Margaret Wilson shared this photo recently commenting that her dad John Morton was on the left and standing beside him is Peter Robertson. It was posted recently on this website. Now, thanks to further information sent from Alex Rochead, it can be confirmed that this Peter Robertson was indeed the man related to the Robertson family who owned the ‘ginger factory’ at Springwells.
Born on Christmas Day , 1896, Peter was the son of Peter Robertson, aerated water manufacturer and Jessie Allan. He was born at Springwells, Blantyre.
Peter was part of the Highland Light Infantry 6th (City of Glasgow) Battn. (Territorial). He died on 25th April 1917 killed in action whilst in Egypt during WW1. He is remembered with honour at the Gaza War Cemetery and also noted on the WW1 monument in Blantyre.
