I’ve got some amazing photos to show this year, in conjunction with articles about my large, sequel book “Glasgow Road North – The Real Story“. Including some photos of inside the Glasgow Road shops, which I’m sure you’ll all like to see!
For now, let’s stay outside and with the redevelopment work that many of us still talk about. This photo taken in 1981 shows a very muddy scene at Low Blantyre.
This is Glasgow Road looking east towards Springwells before the Expressway. The foreground is Herbertson Street and the Co-op hall/Wheels is being demolished on the right at the corner of Auchinraith Road. Putting this in context, the car coming into the scene on the far left would now be where the tyres/car wash is at the top of Forrest Street. How bleak 1981 was for Low Blantyre! Out with the old buildings and waiting for what was “the future”.
This whole photo is completely different now. If pictured today much of the photo would be taken up by Gavin Watson Printers (formerly the Reids Printers building)
