This previously unseen photo is again from the collection of David Ritchie’s photographs of the turn of the 20th Century. The High Blantyre photographer captured a lot of buildings, scenes and people in these amazingly, clear and expressive photos.
This girl is certainly looking “pensive”, perhaps through having to keep the same expression for so long in the photo, or perhaps not wanting to be in the photo at all!? A white sheet or tablecloth has been used to mask much of the stone wall to provide a contrasting backdrop. I’m unsure who she is, but there is a very good chance she is a friend or relation of the Bowie or Ritchie family.
This photo is over 100 years old from the turn of the 20th Century. Despite this, the resolution is incredible. Indeed, I can zoom in on her expressive eyes, a window to her soul and even see freckles on her face.
