A brilliant photo next from 1981. Combining the old and new buildings on Glasgow Road. A completed, modern shopping centre stands facing boarded up tenements awaiting demolition. The sports centre construction taking place outwith the picture to the right.
This rare picture shows the existing footpath still intact on the north side of the road in the foreground. Taken from near to the John Street junction it looks west towards Cambuslang.
Who remembers Mason Furnishing in the larger premises in Clydeview Shopping Centre? Whats apparently different from today in this photo is the lack of green landscaping and trees which at least helped remove stark appearances. We’ll be continuing to explore Glasgow Roads redevelopment in the coming weeks.
