1980 Round Table Pensioners Meal

1980 Round Table Pensioners meal

At the start of December 1980, more than 230 elderly people attended the Round Table’s largest and best ever pensioners treat.

The annual event had been organised by the Blantyre Round Table in Blantyre Miner’s Welfare and 1980 was their 4th event. The pensioners tucked into a hearty meal organised by Tablers and members of Blantyre Volunteer Group before settling down for entertainment provided by two folk singers and girls from High Blantyre Dancing School.

To end the night, all ladies were given a box of chocolates and each man received a packet of cigars. Robin Douglas, one of the Tablers added, “It was certainly one of the largest events of this kind in terms of the numbers.”
