Calder Street Football Team, 1948

This excellent photo was taken at Calder Street School in the immediate post WW2 years, during the late 1940’s. Some happy, smiling faces on the winning team as they sit proudly with their trophy.

The Janitor to the left, sports teacher to the right. The boys had played in the Lanarkshire Junior Schools Cup.

The picture was handed into me personally by George Paterson, who some people will remember for his taxi and coach businesses a few decades back. George also kindly handed me some photos and documents from his Blantyre past. I was interested to learn that despite George living in Blantyre for many years, he’s a Canadian man, born in Winnipeg and still has his Canadian passport. Before he left my home, I managed a quick picture.
