
I’d never seen this photo before until recently. From 1903, I’d initially not paid much attention to it, as it was taken in Motherwell, not Blantyre.
However, zooming in a little closer, I could see it’s a tramcar heading for Blantyre, the sign visible on the top deck. This car must have trundled along Glasgow Road hundreds, if not thousands of times and “caur 23” would have been a well known sight.
