With thanks to the very kind June Stone, the former warden of Devlin Grove who has graciously given me this original “Pictorial Review” published by the Hamilton Advertiser in 1930.
At almost 90 years old, it cost a whopping 5 shillings at the time, around £20 in today’s money and is absolutely jam packed full of amazing photos. Literally hundreds of them from all over Lanarkshire, in brilliant resolution.
The cover is rather deteriorated so I’ll be looking after this carefully, keeping it in the dark but not before digitising the photos. It’s a real ‘who’s who’ of Lanarkshire with many incredible photos of Blantyre places, groups, adverts and people from the 1920s.
I’m like a kid in a candy shop! There’s enough in this 150 page A3 book to keep me busy for years! Thank you to June for her kindness and please be assured it has arrived at a very, caring new home. As always, I’ll be bringing anything of interest to this page soon.
