In 1980, the women of group, “Blantyre Village Women” celebrated 50 years of their organisation. Members of the group formed in 1930, gathered in the Livingstone Memorial to watch longest serving member Mrs M Bowie cut the cake.
President Annie Gourley welcomed guests Fred McDermid, Chairman of the David Livingstone Trust, Mr George Green who was honorary governor of the Trust, Bill Cunningham the warden and Rev Hunter of David Livingstone Memorial Church. Cambuslang Salvation Army band played some music and Mrs S McPhail gave a talk on the history of the organisation.
Do you recognise any of the women in the picture, or know more about what happened to this group?
