1979 Flower Festival

Screen Shot 2018-07-31 at 21.06.13Friday 5th and Saturday 6th October 1979 saw a spectacular flower festival at Blantyre Old Parish Church.

Pictured is local lady, Audrey Smith, an Internationally acclaimed flower arranger preparing one of the many flower arrangements that went into the display.

The festival was held to raise money for the much needed renovation and modernisation work at Blantyre Old Parish Church. Admission cost 50p and over in the Church Halls, there was even a country market selling fruit and vegetables, all home grown! Audrey had been working day (and night!) over the week before to get the display all ready for the public.
