Glasgow Road – By Bernadette Matytsine

Local lass Bernadette Matytsine has written an amazing song all about Glasgow Road, Blantyre! It’s a song about yearning for home, for Glasgow Road and for Blantyre again.

Her proud husband Sacha told us, “I’m originally from Moscow in Russia. I moved over to Scotland from Paris 6 years ago. When I met Bernadette she lived in Blantyre. We have since moved to Ayr but she misses her home town and that’s what inspired her song.”

The beautiful song, by the talented vocalist was written by Bernadette, she says very quickly, but is attracting the attention from residents of Blantyre and from those from MUCH further afield, perhaps with similar yearning for remembering their original home.

Well done Bernadette. This is a lovely, heart warming song, in a great Blantyre, Scottish dialect and very fitting for Burns Night. I hope everybody shares it far and wide.

Oh that sunny street
Down in a place called Blantir
With no pretences
No ladies or sirs
Now back as you were
If you’ve came there from birth
Your heart is your wealth, your gold
And your neighbours are what your worth
Oh Glasgow road
I’m on my way home
I’m find my way back
No matter where i roam
In ma mammies street
You can get a cup a tea
At anybody’s door
And you know all there faces
And they’ve known yours since you were born
Now back is you were
If you’ve came there from birth
Your heart is your wealth your gold
And your neighbours are what your worth
Oh Glasgow road
I’m on my way home
I’m find my way back
No matter where i roam
The sun is shining when I’m driving it getting kinda blinding, just like falling in love with you
It’s such a bright pretty day, the sun is here to stay
I don’t mind if I’m blind, as long as we’re ok
Oh Glasgow road
I’m on my way home
I’m find my way back
No matter where i roam
