Pictured here in May 1978 in this unusual scene are 50 enthusiastic individuals who attended a dedicated YOGA class at Blantyre Community Centre.
The event was part of a full day of fitness activities for men and women. Mrs Mary Wilson, of Woolcott Drive, who was a yoga teacher and organiser of the event hailed it as as a great success. She told reporters, “At our normal yoga classes, we don’t have enough time, so we booked a full day, so we didn’t have to rush things.”
Mrs Patti McTavish, Vice chairperson of the Scottish Yoga Association came along and provided a lecture and expert demonstration. Classes were made up of new starts and experienced individuals.

Sally Jamieson Hi Paul , it’s called Wolcott Drive. I used to live there and remember Mrs Wilson very well. Mrs Wilson is the lady who has the most of the word project written over her. Lol.x
Mary was my gran! Always loved talking about her yoga days and making sure I could do basic things like toe touching before I signed up for any classes ☺️ Wonderful lady who is missed very much. Can easily tell that’s her in the front row. Lovely little find this was. If there’s any other pics of my gran please send them onto biggart.suzy@gmail.com
