1940’s Courting by the Shelter

16395903_163636920793439_853393101_nMargaret Campbell shared this lovely family photo taken during the early 1940s.

Margaret told me, “This is one of Mum & Dad taken from 1 Priory Rd with the old air raid shelter. The photo was taken during the Second World War when they were courting. The roof line of buildings behind were the shops on Glasgow road.”

Of course these were the years that these Anderson Shelters were installed in hundreds of gardens throughout Blantyre. The shelter looks brand new in the background of this sunny Summer picture. Happiness on the faces of youngsters in love and a million miles away from the darkness and horror going on at the same time, in the Continent and the Pacific.
