Can you imagine after Sunday morning church, gathering the whole family together in 1927 Blantyre, and hopping on to a steam locomotive at Blantyre Station. Then heading on a trip with a packed picnic to the beach at Troon on a sunny May morning!
Such excursions were common and provided a means to get home to Blantyre even as late as 8.30pm in the evening. At a time before cars were commonplace, the train was a real effective means of enjoying visits to the coast.
