Blantyre Manager Retires

It may come as a surprise that the name Carrigans was just as well known in 1920’s Blantyre as it is today. However, for different reasons.

On Saturday 27th June 1927, a well-known figure in the commercial life of Blantyre, Mr Thomas Carrigan, retired from the position of manager of Stonefield Independent Co-Operative Society, Blantyre, after an incredible thirty-three years’ service.

A shrewd business man, Mr Carrigan successfully piloted the society through many, periods of trade depression during his managership and was well remembered for many years after.
