On June 22nd 1968, dancers from Dundee, Stirling, Greenock, Paisley and Kilbirnie came to Blantyre Community Centre on Glasgow Road to compete in a dancing competition organised by Mrs. Hislop who ran the local dance school.
Amongst the prizewinners was Mrs Hislops 14 year old daughter, June Hislop who scored 3 firsts and 4 seconds. Other local girls were amongst the winners. Those doing well also included Netta Wilson who got 5 firsts and 4 seconds. Lynn Friery also won a shield and 10 medals. Sandra Graham who had 2 firsts and 3 seconds was noted as a winner too.
This is a more modern story than usual for Blantyre Project, so hopefully there are some families out there who know the girls, or perhaps the women themselves can comment as they fondly look back on this?
