These new pictures should take people back to the early 1980’s. Pictured is High Blantyre, around the Kirkton area. Shared by Gordon Cook, I’ve zoomed in on the original to produce some new images, focusing on certain area like the old Church Halls at the corner of Broompark Road, the old “Welcome to Blantyre sign”, the pit monument and of course the former tenement buildings and shops at the corner of Main Street and Douglas Street.
This is near home and my favourite area of Blantyre. What are your memories of this area?
