A photo from the 1980s, shared by Kevin Creechan. Pictured is former wrestling star, Big Daddy on a visit to Blantyre Sports Centre. Its unknown why he was there and what year this was, so if you know, please do tell.
Big Daddy, (real name Shirley Crabtree, Jr), was an English professional wrestler with a record-breaking 64 inch chest. He worked for Joint Promotions and the British Wrestling Federation. Initially a villain, he teamed with Giant Haystacks. He was born in 1930 making him in his 50s here. He died young in 1997, a year before colleague Giant Haystacks who was also at the Sports Centre that day (possibly 1986?)

Just found this after Googling the event to see if I’d imagine it…Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks were at Blantyre Sports Centre to wrestle. I was at the swimming club at the time, and remember listening at the doors to the hall while waiting for my Dad to pick me up. Don’t know if 1986 was the exact year but it would have been about then.
