On 3rd August 1933, a Blantyre man, John Henderson, of 16 Alpine Street was awarded £2O damages, and 18s 5d expenses, against Mrs Margaret Canning, or M’Keown, of 24 Alpine Street, Blantyre. This was for a slander action raised in Hamilton Sheriff Court. John claimed on the grounds of injury to his character and in respect that Mrs Canning falsely and slanderously stated that was a thief, and that he had robbed the priest and the Boys’ Guild of St. Joseph’s Church, Blantyre, something he denied.
Looking at the addresses, this was two neighbours involved in a spate, one of whom felt strongly enough to sue. Of course neighbourly spats are a thing of the past, and we all get on brilliantly now in Blantyre. Or do we? I hope we do.
