When I saw this low resolution 1920s photo of Auchentibber Quoiting Green, i wondered what the white object was in the green itself, (to the left). Was it a white cover laying on the ground, perhaps a stall or tea stand? I have only recently realised, the object is actually partly the Poseidon statue behind the tree and also probably people sitting down at the other side of the green, wearing white clothes. Maybe the umpires, or women watching the menfolk? What do you think?
The young trees around the green are now very large indeed, but today, especially in winter when the growth dies back, it is possible to make out where the quoiting green was.
