1890s Miners at Dixon’s Pit 2

Pictured here in the 1890’s are the miners of Dixon’s Pit 2 at High Blantyre. I’ve managed to zoom in on many of the miner’s faces, and whilst these men are long passed on, they were likely almost all Blantyre people, living mostly at Stonefield’s Dixons Rows or at Priestfield.

These men would only be too aware of the dangers of their job, and of the generation before them who suffered a monumental tragedy in the very same pit, they risked their own lives in every day.
