On Wednesday 8th August 1934, Mary Brodie Paterson, the 16-year-old daughter of Mr A. Paterson, of 73 Broompark Road, High Blantyre, was fatally injured when the cycle she was riding was involved in a collision with a motor cycle ridden by a young man.
