Mid August will see the delivery of Blantyre Project History archives for all of my 2014 posts, photos and articles to the libraries of our local Primary Schools! (High Blantyre Primary, David Livingstone, Auchinraith, St Blanes and St Josephs). This is done partially at my own cost, but also by minor grant funding. It offers each school a growing history archive where it’s hoped our local children and future generations will have a reference point where they can learn detailed and accurate history about our town.
Local schools already have Blantyre Project history books (separate to my ‘Journey in Time series’), but their archives are currently only for everything written in 2012 and 2013. This latest delivery will see all my collected information, knowledge and research passed on in a permanent form of hard backed, full colour, quality books, unable to bought anywhere else and quite unique to the schools. This coincides with our “back to school” competition coming in August and spearheads an initiative towards the end of 2015, which will see Blantyre Project integrate more visibly with local primary schools and teachers.
The books also provide a nice insight into Blantyre’s social history with various social media comments featuring also. It’s hoped that copies of each can also be donated to Blantyre Library as reference only books, by the end of this year, making them accessible to all, adding to what is becoming a more healthy local history section.
