These photos are of High Blantyre Main Street in 1927. A busy street as horse and carts go about their business as well as people on bicycles. This scene looks East towards Hamilton. On the at the S bend in the road is the junction with Broompark Road. The buildings on the right are now demolished.
I wonder if anybody will remember the little shops and garages with the tin pitched roofs on the left hand side, which survived well after WW2?

Alan Baird i remember it was abbot the plumber who had one of the wee garage tyoe buildings , and then in the shops one was gilchrist the electrician then it became smithsMoira Todd It was Abbott the plumber…..my Dad! & grandad before him. I am Moira Abbott…. Now Todd. Grandad died in the workshop, 1953′ just before I was born the next February. Granny worked in the front office heated by a parafin stove….I loved that smell. The workshops were at the back.She & we lived in the cottages further down on the other side next to the Chemist shop. Fabulous memories!
