1927 Main Street, High Blantyre

These photos are of High Blantyre Main Street in 1927.  A busy street as horse and carts go about their business as well as people on bicycles. This scene looks East towards Hamilton. On the at the S bend in the road is the junction with Broompark Road. The buildings on the right are now demolished.

I wonder if anybody will remember the little shops and garages with the tin pitched roofs on the left hand side, which survived well after WW2?

Moira Todd It was Abbott the plumber…..my Dad! & grandad before him. I am Moira Abbott…. Now Todd. Grandad died in the workshop, 1953′ just before I was born the next February. Granny worked in the front office heated by a parafin stove….I loved that smell. The workshops were at the back.
She & we lived in the cottages further down on the other side next to the Chemist shop. Fabulous memories!
