Betty McLean in Canada recently sent me these photos, adding.

“These photos are of my husband Alex.  He lived in Morris Crescent for the early years of his life before moving to Russell St Burnbank.  He was President of the American Iron and Steel Society in 1986.  In 1998 the society held a conference to honour him in Toronto.  On that occasion some of his former students and associates hired highland outfits in tribute to him.  In the photo, countries represented are: Mexico, Hungary, France, Germany, England and Scotland.

Alex has honorary doctorates from the university of Miskolc in Hungary and also from Glasgow.  Retired since 2002 he continues to head up a research group at the University of Toronto.  He received the Queen’s Medal in 2013. “

This is one Blantyre boy who certainly did well!
